Clinical team leader
Dr Sheraz Burki is from the small town of Skardu, in Northern Pakistan. After passing the Australian Dental Council examinations, he moved to Australia with his family in 2012 to pursue his orthodontic career.
Dr Burki graduated from de'Montmorency College of Dentistry in Pakistan and completed his Master of Science in Orthodontics from Marmara University, Turkey. He is a fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and is also qualified in health & hospital management, where he has been actively involved in research.
Dr Burki has been the President of the Pakistan Association of Orthodontists and is a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists, International College of Continuing Dental Education, Academy of Dentistry International and Straumann Implant System. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
Before moving to Australia, Dr Burki served as the Dean Faculty of Dentistry, Chairman & Professor of Orthodontics at Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi.
Dr Burki is married to his wife, Samina and is kept busy with their two teenagers, Shayan and Eman.
Jo joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2005. She has been a qualified dental hygienist for 27 years with 11 years in the orthodontic industry. A favourite part of her work is the one-on-one time she spends with patients, getting to know them over the course of their treatment. Her aim is to always help them feel comfortable and well looked after.
Outside of work, Jo enjoys swimming and spending time with her two teenage children, both of whom have undertaken treatment with Dr Duncan. She is heavily involved with the local swimming club, and is a representative on the Swimming SA Country Committee.
Leanne has been working as a dental hygienist, specializing in orthodontics for over 20 years. She completed her formal training with an Associate Diploma of Dental Hygiene in 1990. Leanne is very skilled in various fields of orthodontics and maintaining a high level of attention to detail is extremely important to Leanne in her work.
he has a caring and understanding spirit and always tries to make her patients feel comfortable as they undergo their orthodontic treatment. She particularly values seeing how orthodontics can help people’s self-esteem and confidence grow as they see their smiles improve.
Linh joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2014, after completing her Bachelor of Oral Health at Adelaide University in 2013. The limited number of students accepted into that degree programme each year gain early exposure to clinical practice through placements in a range of dental settings, urban and rural. Linh discovered her love of orthodontics during this practical experience.
Linh’s interests include sport, cooking and overseas travel. She participates in netball with her colleagues from the Straight Smile Centre, and has attended ASO conferences in 2016.Linh recently completed an Insignia Smile Design programme in Sydney.
Judy has worked in orthodontics as a dental hygienist for over 30 years. She graduated with a Certificate in Dental Hygiene in 1976. During her many years of experience, during which so much has changed for the better in orthodontics, Judy has enjoyed the constant opportunity for interaction with patients of all ages, and has responded to each individual’s questions and circumstances with a very compassionate and professional manner. She prides herself on providing the best possible care to her patients, encouraging them to benefit fully from the specialist treatment they have received from Dr Duncan and his team.
India has been working for the Straight Smile Centre since May 2016. She has always had a passion for helping others and finds ample opportunity to do this within our Centre’s environment. One of her priorities is making sure our patients feel relaxed during their treatment process and comfortable about asking questions at any stage. She enjoys watching each patient’s transformation and is keen to continue learning as much as possible about the nature of orthodontics and ways of delivering and improving patient care. In her spare time, India enjoys singing and socializing with friends.
Jasmin joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2014, the same year her own orthodontic treatment was completed by Dr De Angelis. She finds that personal experience to be very useful in helping patients; to watch how each grows and changes throughout their orthodontic transformation is also immensely rewarding. Jasmin is keen to progress and increase her knowledge and has recently commenced studying Certificate III in Dental Assisting. She is also in the process of learning reception duties. Jasmin is captain of the Tooth Fairies – our Straight Smile Netball team.
Outside of work, Jasmin enjoys food, family time with her two-year-old, sports and shopping at K-Mart.
Karla is a loyal Straight Smile Centre team member with an easy-going and caring attitude. She starting working in orthodontics in 2001 and has over 15 years’ experience in an industry that provides her with a great deal of job satisfaction. Seeing the changes in people once they have the smile they always wanted is an outcome that she thoroughly enjoys. A commitment to enhancing her own professional development as a dental nurse has been important to Karla who has completed Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
Liana has been working at the Straight Smile Centre since 2014. At present, she is completing her Certificate III in Dental Assisting and hopes to further her knowledge and skills by studying for a Bachelor of Oral Hygiene degree. She prides herself on her outstanding customer service, and thoroughly enjoys working with the Straight Smile Centre team.
Her aim is to provide each patient with a positive experience, whatever their orthodontic needs, and she loves seeing the amazing results our doctors and staff are constantly producing.
Monica started working in orthodontics in 2012 and brings to the Straight Smile Centre the benefits of her extensive experience as a dental nurse. Ongoing professional development is important to Monica and she has completed Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
Monica loves to keep up to date with the latest technology and can do so regularly, given the constant improvements in specialised equipment available to orthodontists. Her positive approach to such developments is reflected in her dental assisting duties and beyond. She enjoys the opportunity to engage with patients and to explain the advantages of new technology in their treatment.
Sarah has been actively involved with the orthodontic industry for over a decade and really enjoys the positive work environment at the Straight Smile Centre. To be in a practice where everyone works really hard to get to know patients on a personal level is a source of professional satisfaction for Sarah. She, too, strives to develop a great relationship with patients of all ages and draws on her extensive knowledge of the practice to support that approach. Sarah has completed Certificate III in Dental Assisting and is always looking to enhance her qualifications through hard work and commitment.
Sunnilee started with the Straight Smile Centre in 2016 as a dental assistant. Having previously worn braces herself, she is aware of the process and enjoys making the patient treatment experience in our practice as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Cheerful and happy, Sunni is always pleased to answer whatever questions patients may have. She takes pride in seeing patients as they move through each stage of their treatment and finish with a beautiful smile.
Sunni looks forward to developing her professional skills with the Straight Smile Centre and working alongside our specialists to facilitate more transformations in patients’ smiles.
Vy has completed her Bachelor of Nursing degree and is currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. She joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2016. Despite the career difference with being a registered nurse, she is passionate about her role as a dental nurse, and enjoys conversing with and educating patients about dental health and oral hygiene. Her mission is to ensure patients feel comfortable and well looked after by happily answering any questions they may have.
In her spare time, Vy enjoys cooking, spending time and having fun with family and friends, travelling and reading.
Caroline joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2000 and has a special interest in invisible orthodontics, especially Invisalign. She believes strongly in the life-changing results that can be gained through orthodontic treatment and loves seeing the transformations achieved by our specialists.
Caroline enjoys building good relationships with patients and prides herself on ensuring every patient leaves our practice with all their questions answered. She is skilled at arranging flexible, personalised payment plans to suit every situation.
Caroline has two adult children, and when not at work enjoys reading, good wine and food, and spending time with family and friends.
Since becoming a member of the Straight Smile Centre in May 2014, Cortni has assisted more than 8,500 patients and believes there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone’s confidence grow from having a brand new smile. Cortni’s attention to detail and knowledge of all aspects of the practice have made her a valuable asset to both our patients and our team, and she is always more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Cortni is Goal Keeper for the Straight Smiles Netball Team – “The Tooth Fairies”. She enjoys spending time with family, friends, and shopping at K-Mart.
Jill has been a member of the Straight Smile Centre for over 20 years, and readily admits that she is proud to work with such a friendly and talented group of caring people. Her professional skills, along with her calm and empathetic nature, make her a valued member of the reception team at our Norwood practice.
Jill has two adult sons, both of whom had their orthodontic treatment completed by Dr Duncan years ago, and are still happy with the result. Working part-time allows Jill to pursue her interests of travel, reading and more recently riding her bike (in search of a good coffee).
Sandra joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2009 and is passionate about her role as a receptionist. She enjoys helping both new and existing patients to feel welcome and comfortable at the clinic. Seeing the change in people as they journey through their treatment is another rewarding aspect of her job. Sandra loves working at the practice and her son has been treated here by Dr De Angelis.
Outside of work, Sandra enjoys watching her son play soccer and Port Adelaide play football. Sandra also enjoys travelling and entertaining her family and friends, and has long volunteered on school and soccer committees.
Simon joined the Straight Smile Centre in 2003, and is an extremely skilled technician with over 13 years’ experience specifically in orthodontics. Simon fabricates all our orthodontic appliances and retainers and assists our doctors to design custom-made appliances which cater for individual treatment needs. He relishes the intricacy of the work, his work ethic reflecting his belief that every item he fashions helps to improve the life and happiness of patients.
In his spare time, Simon enjoys fishing, painting, computing, going out with friends and reading. He likes helping others, and brings a cheerfulness and happy smile to those around him.
