Caring for your aligners

Because aligners are removable, treatment with Spark aligners or Invisalign® clear aligners is ultra convenient. That being said, there are a few things you should do to make your treatment go more smoothly. Here are our top tips for caring for your aligners.

Caring for your aligners

Do's with aligners

  • Thoroughly rinse your aligners each time you take them out.
  • Brush your clear aligners nightly with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush (a different one than you use for your teeth).
  • Brush and floss your teeth after each meal and before putting your aligners back in.
  • Safely store your aligners in your hard plastic case when you remove them to eat, drink, play sports, practise instruments, or brush your teeth.
  • Wear your clear aligners as often as possible, following the recommendations of your Specialist Orthodontist.

Don'ts with aligners

  • Don’t eat or drink while wearing your clear aligners. You can easily remove them to enjoy your favourite foods!
  • Don’t use coloured toothpaste or rinses in order to avoid permanently staining or damaging your aligners.
  • Don’t attempt to wash your clear aligners by running them through the dishwasher or by exposing them to extreme heat, such as boiling water.
  • Don’t re-use old aligners after your Specialist Orthodontist has advised you to move to the next set.
  • Don’t try to bend or adjust your aligners. Let your Specialist Orthodontist know if it seems like there’s a problem with the fit or if one of your aligners breaks.
